Sorry, we are no longer accepting applications for this workshop.

This is a two-day abstract painting workshop with artist Damien Flood. Flood creates abstract paintings that challenge our preconceived ideas about the world around us. He is known for his deftness with oil paint and his multiple approaches to the medium.

The two-day workshop will be divided into four exercises, each one introduced by a practical demonstration. These demonstrations will show the participants different techniques and ideas they can incorporate into their paintings. A core focus of the two days will be experimentation with different painting techniques, grounding the canvas, grey tones, colour mixing and viscosities. Alongside this their will be a focus on composition and incorporating various visual languages through paint. On the morning of the first day he will briefly discuss supports and materials, explaining how they affect the outcome of the work. Each of the two days will end with a group discussion led by Damien about the work produced.

Damien Flood is represented by Green On Red Gallery Dublin, Stephane Simoens, Knokke and Diane Rosenstein, LA. Over the last few years he has exhibited in Cologne, Knokke, LA, New York, Dubai, Berlin and London. In 2017 he won the Hotron Eigse Prize and has been awarded the Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Travel Award the dlr Visual Arts Commission among others.
