This 15-week term will be organised around three blocks of five weeks in drawing, led by tutors Mick O’Dea PRHA, Una Sealy RHA and Dorothy Smith. There will be a tutored session each morning. Participants will work from live observation and each afternoon there will be a self-directed life drawing session applying learning from the morning session.
The module aims to transition students from direct contact to full self-directed drawing practice. Students will build drawing skill and material approaches. The course covers measurement, proportion, vertical and horizontal positioning lines, triangulation. Anatomy detailing of specific body areas such as the torso, arm and leg. Portraiture and the clothed figure. Quality of line, using line to explore structure and form. Keen observation will be encouraged with emphasis put on the process or act of drawing. Participants will be encouraged to use different, non-familiar materials and to experience how that can affect the drawing process. In addition to full body poses there will be an extra emphasis on drawing the head, its relationship to the neck and shoulders and detailed work exploring the structure of the eyes, nose and mouth.
