Futures 10 will exhibit a selection of seven young or emerging artists made by RHA Director Patrick T. Murphy and Exhibitions Curator Ruth Carroll. Futures is not a discovery show but attempt to identify artists around whom there is a growing consensus as to the quality of their work. The artists chosen for Futures are artists who have shown in one-person exhibitions in regional arts centres, in open group exhibitions such as ev+a Limerick and the Claremorris Open Exhibition and who have been involved in various studios residencies in Ireland or abroad. In limiting their selection to seven artists the curators offer sufficient space to each, to
allow a good selection of work so that the visitor can gain a real idea of the artist’s intentions.
Sineád Aldridge will exhibit a new body of work in the Ashford gallery, a ground floor space, dedicated to exhibiting artists who do not yet have gallery representation. The Ashford Gallery is designed to introduce artists to the collecting public and prove their commercial viability.
The Keeper of the Academy, the artist, Donald Teskey RHA will select from the RHA Collection a number of works, which will be on exhibit in the Dr. Tony Ryan Gallery.
On show in the Atrium will be Patrick Scott’s large cartoon drawing from the Collection of Trinity College, Dublin. Scott made this work as an equal scale drawing for one of his major tapestry pieces. In November the Dr. Tony Ryan Gallery will show a selection of major work from Trinity’s Collection to celebrate 50 years of the College Gallery.
Clare Langan, has used photography and film, to create work that deals with the essential elements of nature and posits their abiding supremacy even in the face of our exploitation of the planet. Her work will be on exhibit in the RHA Foyer. . |
