Colin Martin was born in Dublin in 1973. He studied at DIT and is currently completing an MFA at NCAD. Martin emerged as a printmaker in the late 90s with a series of psychologically charged domestic interiors. Since then his practice has been predominately painting and concentrates on enclosed abandoned space that act as narrative contexts. They hint obliquely to the values and states of mind that form and underpin communal space.

Martin has held solo exhibitions at Temple Bar Gallery 1999, Ashford Gallery RHA 2006, Fenton Gallery 2009 and Draiocht Arts Centre 2009. He has received many awards including the Thomas Dammann Award 2008, Arts Council Visual Arts Bursary 2004/2007, Hennessy Craig Scholarship 2004. He was an Associate Member of the Academy in 2008.
