Belfast Trip,
Visit to The Mac
and Golden Thread Gallery and Studio Visit with artist,
Jane Rainey
.

Join us on our day trip to Belfast where Friends of the RHA will be guided through exhibitions at The MAC and Golden Thread Gallery and will be welcomed to artist, Jane Rainey’s Studio. We will travel by train to Belfast and have lunch at Salt Bistro in Belfast’s Cathedral quarter.

Showing at the MAC will be Gilbert & George’s exhibition SCAPEGOATING PICTURES for Belfast. Spanning three floors of the MAC, this exhibition takes places on the 50th anniversary of the artists’ collaborative practice.

At Golden Thread gallery, artists Vanessa Donoso López and David Godbold will be exhibiting. Vanessa Donoso López, originally from Barcelona, lives and works in Dublin. López’s practice explores concepts of transitional phenomena relevant to contemporary migrant life. It seeks to negotiate the tension between cross-cultural identities and narratives, its instability and complexity, its potential for the loss of identity, language, and the hypothetical compatibility with original cultures.

David Godbold studied at Goldsmith’s College in London. Working in Ireland since the ‘90s, Godbold’s work concentrates on the critical examination of the production, circulation, and reception of visual imagery in both ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture. He works in a variety of media but is best known for drawings and texts overlaid onto found materials, which involves a complex process of quotation and regrafting of disparately sourced imagery to produce witty, irrever- ent and iconoclastic commentaries on a range of topics. Godbold has exhibited widely and is represented by Kerlin Gallery, Dublin.

Friends will also visit painter, Jane Rainey at her studio in Queen Street Studios. Rainey completed a Master in Fine Art at NCAD in 2016 after receiving her BA at Ulster University in 2014. Since graduating, Rainey has extensively exhibited in Belfast, Dublin and throughout Ireland, including RHA’s Futures exhibition, 2017, and has begun exhibiting further a eld in USA and Italy.

Contact Friends Co-ordinator, Róisín Bohan by email friends@rhagallery.ie or tel: 01 661 2558 to book or for more information. Places are limited so early booking is advised.
