Group Art Therapy Sessions at RHA
Sundays, 8 September – 13 October
RHA is delighted to announce a series of Art Therapy sessions at RHA, facilitated by art therapist trainee, Andrea Clare Plunkett from MSc Art Therapy, Ulster University.
The first six group sessions will take place on Sundays from 8 September – 13 of October, and are free and open for all to attend, with booking required. Please continue reading for further information.
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media to express, reflect and communicate. Please note you do not need to have any previous experience or expertise in art to benefit from this therapy.
Who is it for?
Art Therapy can be used across the lifespan; RHA sessions are for those over 18 years and cater for all needs or requirements.
What are the benefits?
Art therapy is founded on the belief that creative self-expression has therapeutic value for those who seek a deeper understanding of themselves and their personalities. Art therapy sessions can promote and help maintain a sense of well-being, reduce stress, build self-esteem, alleviate symptoms of depression, improve communication skills, improve problem-solving skills, and most importantly provide a positive distraction with a fun creative activity.
What will I do in the session?
- Each session is 2.5 hours duration.
- The session will begin by meeting with Andrea and other group members and completing a consent process.
- Next, the group will move into the gallery space and look at a selection of artworks.
- Following this, time will be allowed in the art room to create your own artwork in an open, informal, non-judgmental, safe space.
- There will be lots of art materials to use. Andrea will help you along the way and what you make is up to you.
Sessions are free to attend. Booking is required through Eventbrite and there is limited capacity for each session.
