Blaise Smith was born in 1967. He attended NCAD. As a figurative painter he has exhibited widely and his work is held in many Public and Private Collections. In 1999 he completed “Roadworks”, a set of twenty four paintings depicting the men and machines of Cork County Council for their Centenary. The following year he painted ten paintings for Kilkenny County Council entitled “The Millenium Landscape”. He has won many awards and been selected in numerous juried exhibitions notably the RHA Annual in Dublin and the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London and recently won the Eigse Open Award in 2015. He has had eight solo shows in the Molesworth Gallery, Dublin. He was elected an Associate Member of the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2012 and was elected a full RHA Member in 2017. He completed another major Commission of 20 paintings for Presentation College, Carlow entitled SCHOOLWORK which was exhibited in VISUAL, Carlow and The Crawford Gallery, Cork in 2013. He has recently completed a portrait commissioned by the Abbey Theatre which will be unveiled in 2016.
He was appointed Assistant Principal of the RHA Drawing School in 2013
He served on the Council of the Royal Hibernian Academy from 2013-15
He was appointed to the Board of the National College of Art and Design in 2015
He lives in County Kilkenny.
