Abigail Oʼ Brien RHA graduated with an MA Fine Art Painting in 1998, from The National College of Art and Design, Dublin.
She has exhibited extensively throughout Ireland and Europe.
Solo exhibition include, The Seven Sacraments,1995 – 2004 at Haus der Kunst, Munich, Germany, Temperance, 2009 at The Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin and Garden Heaven – Holy Orders, 2001-2003 at Centre Culture Irlandais, Paris.
Group exhibitions include, Another Island, Contemporary Irish Art, The American Historical Society, New York; EV+A, Limerick; Altered Images at Crawford Art Gallery and The Eye of the Storm at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
Her work is in many noted collections including The Irish Museum of Modern Art, The National Self-Portrait Collection, University of Limerick; The Caldic Collection, Rotterdam, The European Central Bank, Frankfurt and the Contemporary Art Museum, Vienna .
Also private collections in Europe and the US.
Abigail O’Brien uses a diverse range of media including sculpture, photography, text, video and embroidery.
During the past number of years O’Brien’s focus has been on major bodies of work. These include The Seven Sacraments (1995 – 2004) and her current theme, The Temporal Virtues (2005 ongoing). From time to time other themes intersect the work such as The Rag Tree Series, 2003, Bella, 2007, Hidden Treasure 2012 and With Bread, 2013.
O’Brien has won many awards for her work and has been supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and Culture Ireland.
She was RHA Secretary for five years (2012-2017) and a past member of the Programme Board at The Royal Hibernian Academy.
